It is easier. He wouldn't be much happier as a tiger but he couldn't continue to live as a human being as either a poet or an office worker.

Though if he lives as a tiger, he'll be isolated.

Maybe that's why he approaches Yuan Can and laments to him about his life choices. It's obvious he wants to connect to his human side, even if he abandons it out of both pride and cowardice.

Even if he's prideful, he still didn't want to be alone. But a tiger can't live among humans.

A tiger can't live among humans, but isn't that what he wanted? He couldn't bear the idea of his failure, especially to work underneath people who were more accomplished than him. I don't think he wanted live among humans even as a human.

He didn't, but he did. Being recognized among humans would require being among them, after all, even if his pride wasn't an obstacle.

Humans are full of contradictions. We want to be respected as greater than others, but we don't want to be bothered by people we consider lesser to us. We want not to have to deal with the pressures of society, but we want to have the company of other people.

It's true what you say, humans are full of contradictions.

People don't realize it though, the hypocrisy they play into. Only Li Zheng comes to that realization when he becomes a tiger. It's unfortunate.

I connect more with stories that aren't pleasant.

You said writers write because their lives are unfulfilled, so their stories express that void. I don't expect anything happy to come from that, but it's more relatable.

Some authors write happy stories because their lives are lacking in happiness. And some authors would probably say I'm overthinking it and that people write happy stories to make others happy.
