[In Akutagawa's physical mailbox is a copy of Rashomon and Other Stories, a collection of short stories by Akutagawa Ryuunosuke. There's also a paper with a short note.]

I thought you might want the chance to read the work of the other Akutagawa. Let me know what you think of it. -Atsushi

[ It does take Akutagawa a few days to give Atsushi a reply, though he's read the book in its entirety and he certainly has...some thoughts. It's interesting to read the work of his renowned other self, but there are some points he'll like to touch on.

[Akutagawa hasn't forgotten. There is a time and place for everything and this certainly isn't the occasion to bring it up. Akutagawa would like to bring that up in person. Though, that's neither here or there.]

I did enjoy it. His writing style is very interesting, but his stories seem to produce more questions than answers.

He liked that style of writing. "In A Grove" is his work most famous for not having any clear explanation of what really happened or satisfying resolution.

Yes, I agree. "The Dragon" was also unclear since the reader doesn't know whether the dragon was actually present, or if it was the manifestation of everyone's desire to see it.

Though, I like the play on morality in "Rashomon".

That one is also one of my favorites. But it's hard to pick one of his stories that I don't love, really.

[No, Akutagawa didn't tell him his birthday. He didn't have to - Atsushi's 99% certain he shares it with the Akutagawa from his world.

The package, neatly wrapped with a bow, contains an antique painting Atsushi purchased for him. It's the genuine article, and must have been expensive. It depicts a night garden scene under a full moon - it seemed like the sort of thing Akutagawa might like to put on his wall, if he decorated at all ever.

There's also a note.

Happy birthday. I remembered you like antiques, so I hope you like this piece.

[He isn't expecting anything. Though, he opens his door to find the package with the note from Atsushi. He opens it up, finding the antique painting. The artwork of the night garden scene beneath a full moon is something he could appreciate.

He'll call up Atsushi to express his gratitude.]

I won't say it's unpleasant, it's more like it's not important to me. I never celebrated, because I didn't think it was necessary. Normally I would work, like any other day. When I was younger, we were more concerned about when our next meal will be rather than a birthday.

I didn't get to interact with the Chuuya from before, but it seems that one had been in Prismatica for a while before they eventually disappeared.

Were you acquaintances with Chuuya-san?

Yes. We spent a few hours sharing drinks together right after my arrival.

I found that I got along with him better than I thought I would.

Chuuya-san is an easy person to get along with. He can be direct, has no filter, and he's rambunctious, but he's genuinely concerned about others. He's a good executive.
